Adult Mental Health Services
The Adult Services Center at DLC is broad in its therapeutic scope and is equipped with the resources to help adults of all ages who are facing behavioral health challenges. Treatment may be provided on an inpatient or outpatient basis, including via telemedicine through our Virtual Care Center. Programs are evidence-based and personalized to the patient according to their mental, emotional, and psychological requirements.

Inpatient Services
Our inpatient services include crisis stabilization and Baker Act Receiving. Our crisis stabilization services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our Adult Crisis Stabilization Unit is a 28-bed, non-hospital, inpatient mental health unit that provides brief voluntary and involuntary evaluation and treatment for individuals experiencing a psychiatric crisis who meet the criteria defined under the Florida Mental Health Act.
Adults in a psychiatric crisis may be experiencing:
- Suicidal thoughts
- Severe depression and/or anxiety
- Stress or trauma
- Hearing voices
- Bizarre or threatening behavior
- Drug or alcohol use
- Physical, emotional or sexual abuse
- Family and interpersonal conflicts
- Work or school related crisis
- Breaks with reality

Support Groups
The group therapy modality is used throughout many of the David Lawrence Centers treatment, intervention and prevention programs. The following group therapy programs have been designed to address specific mental health and substance use problems. Adults must meet certain clinical criteria to be entered into a group therapy program.

Wellness Group
The Wellness Group helps individuals with psychotic disorders and/or substance use disorders regain life skills. The group is ongoing as needed and is held weekly.

The Anger Management Group is for individuals experiencing problems related to the appropriate expression of anger. The group focuses on participants utilizing stress management, communication and alternatives to aggression. Participants learn and practice practical skills. This group is not for individuals experiencing problems with violence or abuse in their intimate or marital relationship. The Anger Management Group is held weekly for an average of 8 sessions.

The program is designed to build meaningful partnerships with Veterans and their families to help them function better at home, in the community, on the job, in educational settings, and throughout life.

Case Management Services are designed to help the individual achieve an optimal level of independence by coordinating training in the areas of basic living skills, conflict resolution, problem solving, medication management, socialization and finding and maintaining employment if appropriate. These services are provided in the individual’s natural environment and include assessments and referrals that link clients with a variety of community resources. Clients are monitored regularly to ensure an ongoing continuity of care is maintained, newly identified needs are addressed and progress is being achieved toward treatment plan goals.

David Lawrence Centers owns and operates 24 affordable housing units for qualified, individuals with a diagnosed mental illness in Collier County at two locations (Housing Alternatives of SWFL in Golden Gate Estates and Collier Housing Alternatives in East Naples). An onsite manager and emergency contact services are provided. These residences are made possible through funding from Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the disabled population.

Court Services
Specialty court services offered by the David Lawrence Centers have been developed in partnership with Collier County law enforcement and judicial system. Through providing comprehensive treatment and abiding by rules set forth by Collier County, the professionals at the David Lawrence Centers helps patients get back on track to restoring and rebuilding their lives.

The Collier County Mental Health Court is a collaboration between the criminal justice and mental health treatment systems. Mental Health Court provides select adult Defendants with a diagnosed mental illness who have been arrested with numerous services designed to assist with mental stability. The David Lawrence Centers provides the Case Management component of the program.
The Collier County Veterans Court program coordinates mental health and substance use services for adults with former military service who suffer from a military-related mental illness, traumatic brain injury or substance use disorder and have been arrested for a criminal offense. The goal of Veterans Court is to provide veterans with effective treatment and rehabilitation as well as alternatives to incarceration, so they will have the skills necessary to maintain a drug-and alcohol-free life, abide by the law, and establish positive and productive relationships with their families, their employers and their community. Any veteran with a history of military service regardless of their discharge status is eligible for evaluation into the program.
David Lawrence Centers Deferred Prosecution Programs provide substance use and mental health intervention and education programs for adults who have been referred by Collier County Probation. The programs are designed to divert individuals from the criminal justice system.
Forensic Services are provided to adults 18 years or older with a diagnosed mental health disorder and/or co-existing deficits in one or more areas of functioning who have been charged with a felony. These individuals are being processed through the legal system and have been found incompetent to proceed due to their mental condition. Forensic Services provides advocacy, support, monitoring, technical assistance and facilitation of movement through the criminal justice system.
Competency Restoration Services are community and jail based services offered to adults with a diagnosed mental illness who have legally been deemed incompetent to stand trial. These services include a ten session, state approved, educational curriculum designed to restore a person’s ability to have a sufficient reasonable degree of rational understanding of the proceedings against him/her.
The Adult Drug Court Program diverts offenders with substance use and drug related criminal activity from the criminal justice system by offering them an opportunity to proactively deal with their dependence rather than face punitive alternatives. This more effective form of treatment combines a minimum of one year’s worth of mandatory drug testing, psychoeducational group therapy, case management, regular participation at Alcoholics and/or Narcotics Anonymous meetings, and routine probationary and judicial reviews. The Adult Drug Court Program is a community coordinated effort between the David Lawrence Center, Office of the State Attorney, The 20th Judicial Circuit, Department of Corrections and Department of Children and Families. Clients must be court ordered into the program.
