Britten is Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern and Certified Addiction Counselor who specializes in addictions of all forms and healing the underlying traumas that so often accompany substance use issues. Britten received her Master of Arts degree from the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies and has years of experience guiding people through the co-occurring mental health issues that so often accompany these addictions like differing types of complex traumas, depression and anxiety, bipolar disorder and other relational and societal issues in adolescents and adults. Britten is also pursuing her PhD in Psychology with a focus on Spirituality, Consciousness, and Integrative Health through Saybrook University.
Britten is trained in a trauma processing technique called Brainspotting which allows a person to work through the traumatic life events that have been informing their maladaptive behavior. Learning to change the emotional reaction to memories assists in maintaining long term recovery and has been extremely effective in developing new and sustainable abilities in choice of response. Britten is also trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and is a strong advocate of the usefulness of this approach in the developing of life skills for the betterment and overall quality of life for her clients through emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance with mindfulness as the underlying cohesive factor tying the skills together.
