Naples, Fl – David Lawrence Centers for Behavioral Health (DLC), Collier County’s only comprehensive, not-for-profit behavioral health treatment center serving children, adults and families, has received a $10,000 COVID-19 relief grant from the Collier Comes Together Fund, a charitable fund of the Community Foundation of Collier County (CFCC). The grant will be used to fund DLC’s adult emergency medication fund for indigent clients residing in the Crossroads residential recovery program.

The DLC Crossroads program offers a full continuum of substance use disorder treatment for adults, including inpatient detoxification, residential rehabilitation, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and medication-assisted treatment. DLC’s integrated recovery method utilizes a holistic bio-psychosocial treatment approach that combines evidenced-based practices and state-of-the-art medical supervision, while teaching new skills and activities that the individual and family can incorporate into their daily lives after discharge.

While in Crossroads, clients maintain medication adherence for prescription medications for either medical conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and antibiotics, or co-occurring mental health conditions.

An estimated 20% of Crossroads clients – many who have been significantly impacted by the economic downturn related to COVID-19 – require medication for physical wellness and/or psychiatric treatment but are unable to afford the expense. The expense of this medication assistance is uncompensated.

“It is anticipated that the need for mental health and addiction treatment services will increase as this pandemic continues, and therefore, this additional funding will help sustain the Crossroads program and ensure more people can access this life-saving care,” said Scott Burgess DLC President and CEO. “DLC relies on additional community support and grants to help fund uncompensated care for clients without an ability to pay, especially those impacted by this economic and health crisis. We are grateful for the CFCC’s continued support of the wellbeing of Collier County residents in need who turn to DLC for help and hope.”

CFCC activated emergency relief funds from the Collier Comes Together Fund to collect donations to aid in Coronavirus relief. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CFCC revised its grants process to make current grants as unrestricted as possible, so nonprofit partners have maximum flexibility to respond to the crisis. CFCC is directing all possible unrestricted dollars into the grant pool, in order to have more funds available to grant. The funds will help rapidly deploy basic needs resources to healthcare nonprofit organizations and will help support their operations as well as their staff at the front lines of Collier County’s coronavirus outbreak.
