We urgently need more crisis beds to meet the demand.
Here at David Lawrence Centers for Behavioral Health (DLC), we operate the only Crisis Stabilization Unit in Collier County. This facility provides an immediate and safe place for children and adults who are experiencing thoughts of harming themselves or are in another state of crisis related to their mental health.
Sadly, the demand for inpatient crisis services at DLC continues to escalate year over year, especially among children. During 2021, admissions to our children’s crisis unit increased by 61% over 2020. With children now back in school from the summer—faced with the stresses of academics, extracurriculars, and social settings—we do not anticipate the demand for services slowing anytime soon.
The 30 beds we currently have for children and adults simply cannot meet this growing community need. While the Collier County one-cent sales tax will fund a new Central Receiving Facility that will provide additional inpatient beds, it will be at least two years before it is constructed and operating.
In response, we have launched a campus renovation project that will add 15 additional crisis beds—but we urgently need your support in funding this expansion.
By donating today, you can help immediately with this pressing community need. Together, we can save and change the lives of those in our community who are in distress.
Thank you in advance for your support.
