Volunteers Participate in “Demolition Day” at David Lawrence
On a hot and humid Saturday over the summer, the David Lawrence Foundation rallied dozens of energetic volunteers representing the David Lawrence Centers Young Executives, Fifth Third Bank and Trinity-by-the-Cove Episcopal Church. The groups turned out in force to assist with an interior building demolition project and campus spruce-up program.
The project entailed clearing out the entire interior of the former Crossroads building, which relocated to their new space on the other side of the campus. This included removing all furniture, beds, window blinds and bathroom fixtures as well as carpeting and flooring from a large group room and behavioral technician office.
On the outside, more than a dozen volunteers from Trinity-by-the-Cove cleared underbrush, cut tree branches, weeded and trimmed shrubs on the east side of the campus. The day’s activities were capped with a lunch and dessert provided by the Center’s kitchen staff.
The value of the work performed exceeded $6,000. But beyond the monetary savings, the volunteer project showed the variety of ways in which the community can become engaged in supporting the comprehensive mental health and substance use services provided by DLC.
