Donated Car Delivers In-Home, Community Based Mental Health Services to Children in Need
David Lawrence Foundation Corporate Partner Mutual of Omaha Bank has generously donated a 2003 PT Cruiser in excellent condition to the David Lawrence Centers . The car is being utilized to provide free mental health treatment to children and adolescents residing in Collier, Lee, Hendry and Glades Counties through the State of Florida’s Title XXI Behavioral Health Network (BNet) Program. The BNet Program is designed for children who are enrolled in or eligible for the Florida Healthy Kids program which provides affordable access to health insurance coverage for uninsured, working families.
Through the program, children and adolescents who meet certain clinical criteria receive wraparound, community-based behavioral health services. When clinically appropriate, these services can include case management, individual and family therapy, psychiatric evaluations and medication management.
Geralyn Poletti, DLC Director of Community and Satellite Services, states, “The community-based outreach component of this program is what makes it so effective and a reliable car is very important to accommodate the extensive travel needed to deliver these in-home services across such a large multi-county territory.” The car delivers the therapist directly to the families who, due to a variety of treatment barriers, otherwise wouldn’t access the care they need. “These children have significant impairment in their ability to function in the home, school or community setting due to a mental health, serious emotional disturbance or substance use problem. Obtaining convenient access to these services is critical to their health, wellbeing and future success.” she adds.
Special thanks to Mutual of Omaha executives Kevin Hale and John Clark for making this donation possible.
