Women’s Foundation of Collier County Awards DLC $20,000 Grant for Specialized Treatment for Pregnant and Postpartum Women
Naples, Fl – David Lawrence Centers (DLC), Collier County’s only comprehensive, not-for-profit mental health and addiction recovery treatment center serving children, adults and families, is pleased to announce that the Women’s Foundation of Collier County (WFCC), has awarded the Center a $20,000 grant for specialized treatment for pregnant and postpartum women with substance use disorders. These services are designed to assist pregnant and/or postpartum women up to one year after delivery.
The WFCC is a fund at the Community Foundation of Collier County that supports at-risk women and girls in the region. WFCC provides funds for programs and services that support senior women, teen girls, women heads of household, homeless women and families, as well as the gender wage gap. WFCC grants are made to organizations that offer women and girls services that address unmet economic, educational, safety and health-related needs.
This grant will help fund comprehensive, specialized services that engage at-risk pregnant and/or postpartum women with a substance use disorder. It will provide up to 28 days of short-term, residential treatment in the DLC Crossroads Addiction Recovery Treatment Program and will also link these women to additional services in the community including:
- Comprehensive clinical assessment
- Individualized intervention plan
- Substance use case management
- Nursing and physical assessments
- Individual and group therapy
- Wellness and nutrition services
- Parenting education
- Access to medical and clinical staff specialized in addiction treatment
- Linking to additional appropriate resources such as prenatal, postnatal and well-baby care
The program utilizes a holistic approach to help participants have positive birth outcomes and meet their individualized treatment goals of a drug-free lifestyle and environment for the mother and child.
Eligible pregnant and postpartum women receive expedited admission into the DLC Crossroads Detox and/or Residential program. A designated substance use disorder case manager works with each woman to coordinate treatment and provide the new mother with continuing care during the postpartum period. For opioid-dependent pregnant women, Crossroads assists with coordination of appropriate medication stabilization services.
DLC’s integrated recovery method utilizes a holistic bio-psychosocial treatment approach that combines evidenced-based practices and state-of-the-art medical supervision, while teaching new skills and activities that the individual and family can incorporate into their daily lives after discharge.
The grant funding will specifically help pay for 28 days of residential treatment and 24 sessions of intensive outpatient group therapy. It will also provide assistance with medication, along with obstetric and gynecologic medical expenses.
Scott Burgess, DLC Chief Executive Officer, stated, “Our goal with this specialized treatment is to stop the cycle of addiction, keep families together and save lives. We are honored to receive this support from the Women’s Foundation of Collier County and look forward to the positive outcomes that living a life in recovery can provide for these women and their children.”
