David Lawrence Centers Announces Appointments in Board Leadership
Naples, Fl – David Lawrence Centers, Collier County’s only comprehensive, not-for-profit mental health and addiction recovery treatment facility serving children, adults and families, is pleased to announce the installation of William O’Neill, Esq. as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Former Chairman Douglas Johnson, Ph.D. will now serve as Vice Chair.
William O’Neill, Esq. is a retired attorney who practiced law for 36 years in Connecticut and Florida. O’Neill has been involved in a volunteer leadership capacity with David Lawrence Centers and Foundation for more than 7 years. He originally joined the David Lawrence Foundation Board of Trustees in 2012 and then the Center Board of Directors in 2013. During that time, he served in a variety of executive positions including Secretary, Chair of the Development Committee, and Co-Chair of the 2016 Annual Gala. He also served on the 2013 Executive Search Committee and is an active member of the Strategic Planning Committee.
In addition to his service to the David Lawrence Centers, O’Neill served as Chair of the United Arts Council Board of Directors, Chair for the Neighborhood Health Clinic Endowment Campaign, and Chairman of the Economic Development Council of Collier County Board of Directors among many others community organizations.
O’Neill said, “All of us, myself certainly included, have been affected directly or indirectly in their business, personal and family lives by mental illness and addiction. The crucial role that David Lawrence Centers plays in our community cannot be overstated. I have seen the enormous changes in individual lives that have come about on account of their programs and that is why I’m honored to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors.”
Douglas Johnson, Ph.D. is a retired senior executive in health administration. He has been a board member since 2009 and previously served in a variety of leadership capacities including Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary. He has also served as the Chairman the Clinical Programs Committee and been a member of the Annual Gala Committee for several years.
Johnson was the President of Sentara Healthcare in Virginia, which operates more than 100 care giving sites including seven acute care hospitals, and includes nearly 400 primary care and non-primary care specialty physicians. Johnson, a retired Rear Admiral, also served as Navy Assistant Surgeon General supervising the reserve medical component of the Navy and Marine Corps. He is a graduate of Greater Naples Leadership and has served on a variety of healthcare related boards in Virginia.
