David Lawrence Centers Clinician Wins Statewide Provider of the Year Award

David Lawrence Centers Clinician Maureen Carmody Named Statewide Provider of the Year Award

Naples, Fl – David Lawrence Centers, Collier County’s only comprehensive, not-for-profit mental health and addiction recovery treatment center serving children, adults and families, is pleased to announce that Outpatient Clinician Maureen (Renee) Carmody has been named the Statewide Direct Service Provider of the Year by the Florida Council for Community Mental Health (FCCMH).

The FCCMH is a statewide association of 70 community-based mental health and substance use agencies. The annual awards program is presented at the Council’s annual conference. The Direct Service Provider of the Year Award honors and recognizes an outstanding behavioral health clinician who has made significant enhancements to the provision of mental health services through the implementation of innovative approaches and training services.

Renee Carmody joined David Lawrence Centers (DLC) in 2013 as an Outpatient Clinician and Trauma Specialist working with children, adults and families. She is a licensed clinical social worker, certified traumatologist, certified compassion fatigue specialist, and is certified in trauma incident reduction. She has 18 years of experience working with children, adults and families providing individual and group therapy as well as facilitating clinical trainings.

David Lawrence Centers named Carmody their 2017 Direct Service Provider of the Year and then nominated her for the FCCMH statewide award for the passionate, person-centered approach she embraces towards helping survivors resolve trauma and her steadfast, determined efforts to successfully bring the therapeutic technique Trauma Incident Reduction to David Lawrence Centers in 2017.

Immediately after being hired, Carmody took the lead on completing additional trainings to become a certified Trauma Incident Reduction (TIR) trainer. Upon completion, this year she provided the first local Traumatic Incident Reduction training for DLC clinicians in order to expand the provision of TIR services in SW Florida. Carmody was also instrumental in enhancing trauma-informed care strategies throughout the organization through the incorporation of new evidence-based trauma assessment and treatment tools. She often volunteers to take on additional and increasingly challenging cases that require her level of expertise because of her commitment to helping individuals suffering from the damaging effects of trauma.

David Lawrence Centers CEO, Scott Burgess stated, “We are so proud of Renee for winning this well-deserved, statewide recognition for her work in launching Trauma Incident Reduction at DLC. Trauma is a major factor in many lives and, untreated, can have devastating short and long-term effects on those struggling and those around them.  Her commitment and passion to assisting individuals in recovering from trauma and achieving life-changing wellness is incredible and inspiring!  David Lawrence Centers and our community are blessed to have such a dedicated, compassionate advocate and expert clinician.”

Prior to joining David Lawrence Centers, Carmody held clinical positions with Avow Hospice in Naples, Life Share, Inc. in Fort Myers, and Trauma Resolution Center in Miami.

Carmody earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Florida International University and her Master of Social Work from Barry University. Her specialties include trauma incident reduction, cognitive and behavioral therapy and eye movement desensitization reprocessing.

Carmody has contributed as an author for text in the book Children and Traumatic Incident Reduction. She has served as a guest speaker on trauma-related topics on numerous occasions and frequently volunteers in this regard.

Earlier in her career, Carmody was also the recipient of the Rochelle Goodwin Memorial Award for her contributions to direct service to child victims of crime (Miami-Dade).
