Facilities like The David Lawrence Centers in Naples, keep a close eye on people who are suicidal and provide them with temporary treatment.
Mary Ann Guerra, director of acute care and emergency services for the Naples-based David Lawrence Centers, said a successful suicide prevention program must also work to connect people with affordable housing, jobs and social support.
“It’s more complex than what people realize,” Guerra said. “But it’s also doable when you know what the issues are that help people find hope again and find a reason to live and have the support they need to just deal with everyday life.”
